Environment and Indian Ocean Outdoor Furniture
We have pioneered an environmentally sound future for our industry. In 1995 we helped establish WWF95, a ground breaking partnership between business and one of the world’s leading environmental groups WWF. As founder members, our vision was to ensure that our timber came from well-managed forests. This initiative led to the creation of the Forest Stewardship Council and Indian Ocean were one of the first companies in the UK to supply FSC certified Teak products. All our Teak comes from FSC sustainably managed plantations harvested by local experts who live and work there.
We care deeply about our products AND about our people too. At Indian Ocean, we understand our social responsibilities and we expect our international suppliers and partners to share our commitment, insisting that they exceed local labour standards. We continue to support the local orphanage in our major supply area.
Our technical materials - REHAU® & BATYLINE® are all ultimately 100% recyclable.
Indian Ocean operates a green policy within all our procedures. Our catalogues are printed on FSC paper and we use energy as efficiently as possible within our stores, offices, warehouse and transport planning. For your convenience, we remove all packaging materials when we deliver your furniture and recycle them on your behalf.
We are members of Forest Carbon enabling us to mitigate our carbon footprint. Forest Carbon leads the way in voluntary carbon woodland creation in the UK. Through the planting of over 7.0 million new trees in 130+ new woodlands in the UK since 2006 removing over 1,400,000 tonnes of CO2 from the nation’s atmosphere, as well as providing a host of other benefits to society, including flood mitigation, river improvement and public access.
